Data collection: September 2004

Geographical range of database: Temis County

The unit of the analysis: person.

Target population: the Hungarian voters (18 years old or above) of Timis county.

Type of database: survey.

The temporal dimension of the database: cross-sectional.

Sample taking procedure: multi-scale, layered sampling. In the case of Timişoara the voting registers constituted the starting point: from there we selected a 26.000 case sample frame consisting of the seemingly Hungarian names  (according to the first and last names). The questioners had to interview only the people appearing in the lists. In Timis County we considered the town/village proportion and the ethnic distribution of the settlement. In those settlements where the proportion of Hungarians was at least 40%, the questioners followed a scale, while in the settlements with Hungarian population between 10-40% they had specific lists. In the case of the settlements with Hungarian population below 10% the questioners had to interview everyone.

Data collection procedure: questionnaire

Database weighting: the database is weighted by age, settlement, settlement type and the homogeneity/heterogeneity of marriage (suly3 variable). We had to lower weight the homogenous marriages (see research paper). The archived version is representative of Timis county. By selecting the specific data it will be representative of Timisoara as well.
